2-Page Extravaganza from a 1-Page Wonder

12 Cards

This is a story of some of the most beautiful paper I have ever worked with. This eye-catching paper is made by Maja Design.  The collection I chose to work with is called "Let's Have Some Coffee". I was on a mission to see how far I could make 2 sheets of paper go. I found a clever one-sheet wonder on the blog of Susan Roberts (Rainy Day Creations: http://rainy.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/category/osw-one-sheet-wonder/). I placed two-sheets of double-sided patterned paper on top of each other and made the cuts outlined on this website. I then made "sister" cards by using the same sized pieces of different patterns on two cards.

Baby Block Card - Boy

This is another card I made for a Scrapp'n Savvy Die-Cut Club card swap. I have seen many block cards. but when I decided to put blocks on the pop-ups, I was disappointed that they weren't really squares. I made a taller card to accommodate the Silhouette blocks I had purchased. Finished this card measures 3.5 x 7.5". I have included an .svg file that will cut out this card base. Here is a diagram for those who prefer to cut it out themselves.

Once I made the card taller, I had to solve a new problem. This card is too tall to make an envelope with the envelope punch. Also, it is a bit too long to fit in a business-size envelope. I have included a free .svg file which cuts out a  4.25 x 8" envelope. Two score lines are included in the file, but the 1/2" side folds are not scored by the file. I thought it looked better with rounded corners on the flap.

Turning 50? You Are Not Alone!

Turning 50? Card and Envelope

A well-traveled Italian gentleman is turning 50 this year. I set out to make a special birthday card for the occasion.

The first thing I decided on was the card base. I believe this fold is called a Double Z Fold.

Double Gate Fold

Cut 3 pieces of Kraft cardstock:
   6" x 12" - score at 3 and 9
   2- 6" x 6" - score at 3
Attach 2 squares on each side of rectangle overlapping entire 3" x 6" panels.
Card Standing
Panels 1,2,3
Panels 2,3
Panels 3,4

I decided to make a collage of items that are turning 50 years old this year. I tried several Google searches, but the most successful was: "turning 50 in 2014". It lead me to two websites that gave the best information.

I formed a list of 23 items. I chose images to depict 14 of them on the View Master Reel and 7 of them on the film strip frame. The bottle cap has a Diet Pepsi label on it. The Tower of Pisa is the last image representing an activity from 1964. I also included a first day cover from the month he was born.
Back of Card - Panel 3
I made a Word Document consisting of the items depicted on the card. I attached to the back of the 6" x 6" panel of the card.

I couldn't get the card to stay closed so I made a belt and buckle for it.

FYI: What is turning 50 in 2014?

In February 1964, the Italian government officially asked other countries
if they could help out with the
Tower of Pisa's little leaning problem.

I certainly hope this card instigates a little conversation about the good ol' days of 1964. It ought to be good for at least 10 minutes of - "back when I was a boy . . . ".
