Cardinal Shaker Card

I made this card from a sketch. I hope it isn’t too far off the sketch artist’s vision.

For this card, I mounted turquoise paper on a navy card base. I attached a strip of navy card stock. The artisan frame dies I used were Nesting Frames by Quick Kutz. After distressing with Night of Navy ink, I centered one frame over the other and die cut a circle from the center. I also cut the same circle from the card base. I used crafting foam to cut a circle one size larger (about a ¼ inch), then another out of the center of that circle the same size as the circles previously cut from the card. I also needed two acrylic circles cut from the larger circle die. I mounted one acrylic circle to the foam, added the sequins, then added the other acrylic circle creating a pocket for the sequins to move freely. I then glued the circular pocket to the front of the card base circle and the back of the artisan frame circle – shaker complete.

For the inside of the card, I cut a piece of 4 x 5 ¼ inch card stock. I used randomly torn post-it notes to create a mask to make the clouds in the background. First I inked with a heavy handed white, then much lighter with Tempting Turquoise and even lighter with Night of Navy. I stamped the cardinal on a piece of card stock, then used my Pixcan mat and Silhouette machine to cut it out. I colored the cardinal and attached it so that its head was visible through the window.

Turquoise Mittens

For this card I was asked to use the colors: red, white, and turquoise. My decision to use the mittens from Gina K’s Christmas Wishes is only based on the fact that this was the only stamp left in the set that I hadn’t yet used.

I inked the front of an A2 turquoise card base with Pacific Point ink. Attached a strip of red card stock. The snowflake rectangle is from the Winter Cheer Stamp TV kit. To make the red frame, I used Spellbinders Lazy circles and die cut the center with Spellbinders Standard Circles Large. I stamped the white circle using the stamp away technique and Tempting Turquoise ink. The mittens are stamped with Pacific Point. I embellished the snowflakes with Gold Gelly Roll and Elizabeth Craft turquoise glitter stickers. The gold twine is also Gina k. The metal mittens . . . I think I got from Tuesday Morning. I separate the packaging from embellishments like these as soon as I get them home and store them in divided fishing tackle boxes. I rarely remember the brands or where I get them.

Stained Glass Owl

I love this card for a fall, masculine birthday. I started with a sheet of ivory cardstock. I embossed leaves with clear embossing powder then used a heavy hand to randomly distress with Old Olive, More Mustard, and Crushed Curry ink pads. I then used a tissue to rub over the leaves to remove any ink there. I used my silhouette to cut the vellum into the ovalish (Is that a word?) shape provided in the Gina K Silhouette cut files that accompanies Gina K “Bounty of Blessings”. I centered the owl and branch with gold embossing on the vellum. I then used markers to color the owl on the back of the design. I used 4 tiny brown brads to attach the vellum to the card. For the wood maple leaf embellishment, I inked the wood with distress ink, tied a brown twine bow through the hole, and added it with a glue dot. All stamps used were from the Gina K’s Simple Things and Bounty of Blessings.

Decorating Snowman

I’ve been intending to try the marble background technique for quite some time. I was in Michael’s about two months ago and saw a bag of marbles on the clearance rack. My son was with me and I told him that this was just what I was looking for. I purchased the marbles, but 4 days ago when I was ready to use them they were nowhere to be found. My son swears he put them on my craft table as we unpacked after shopping. My daughter, home for the holidays, and I turned my craft room and a few other places in my home upside down looking for the marbles. During the search my sister from Indianapolis called. “Whatcha doin’?” So I put the phone on speaker and began telling her my woes of not being able to find my bag of marbles. After several suggestions of where to look, she said, “You know what I do when this happens? I pray about it.” . . . and so she began . . . “Sharon has lost her marbles” . . . “Help Sharon find her marbles” and numerous other such phrases. My daughter started to lose it. Soon she was on the floor rolling with laughter. I turned the phone on mute so my sister wouldn’t hear. Then I too got tickled and started giggling. When my sister finished the prayer, I once again clicked the mute button. My daughter and I were breathless as we completed the conversation with my sister. Did we tell my sister that we were in hysterics while she prayed – absolutely! In conclusion, my husband and I found a bag of marbles at the Dollar Store that afternoon.

For this card I started with the marble technique on a 4 ¼ x 5 ½ piece of white card stock. I then trimmed them down into 5 equal strips and mounted them on 5 strips of card stock. The ink colors I used were Color Box Cyan and Stampin Up’s Always Artichoke.

The artisan frame is Nesting Frame 3 from Quick Kutz. I used the Gina K stamp set “Winter Cheer” exclusively (on the inside, too). I distress all of the white cardstock with Always Artichoke. For embellishments, I added a snowflake grommet, a coral twine bow, and Wink of Stella in select places.

BTW: I still have not found “my marbles” and am leaving a blank spot to fill in the date and place where I find them.

I found my marbles on January 7, 2015 (when) in a box of nautical embellishments (where) !!!!!
