Raggedy Ann Valentine Project

This was Valentine making session #2. My granddaughter, Elena, is 3 and attends Pre-School. She needed 8 Valentines for her class. She loves dolls especially the dress up part. I thought she would like assembling a doll for her Valentines.

I used a Raggedy Ann Silhouette file. This one is called "Annie Doll Cute as a Button" by Stinkin' Cute. I'm not sure where my head was when I chose this design, as I didn't think about ALL of the pieces there were in the making of this card. I spent 8 hours cutting and gluing in preparation for Elena to assemble these cards.
Since Elena is just 3, I decided to place the letters/sentiment on the card before she worked on it. I made the doll into stickers for her to place on to the shaped card base.The big hair behind her head was too big to run thru my sticker maker, so I also glued those on ahead of time.

The doll was divided into 5 stickers:

the legs and shoes
the dress, arms, and pantaloons
the face and front hair
the bow
the heart-shaped button

I demonstrated how to put one doll together - that was all she needed. She put all of the cards together by herself!!! You can see there was a little difficulty matching the legs to the pantaloons, but that certainly doesn't distract from the finished product.

Donut Valentines

Today I made Valentines with my grandson, Lucas. He needed at least 22 plus one for his teacher. He was a donut with pink frosting and a milk carton hat for Halloween. I chose donuts because he LOVES donuts!

While the Silhouette was cutting all of the donuts, frosting, and sprinkles, Lucas stamped the inside of the cards using Gina K Kraft ink and the MISTI. BTW: It's so easy even a five year old can do it.

Lucas punched small hearts from a variety of punches as I glued them on.

Lucas colored the frosting on the stamped donut on the inside of each card.

Lucas had had enough of stamping, so I stamped the card fronts. After sorting all of the donuts, frosting, and sprinkles, Lucas made stacks of the four donut parts needed to complete one donut as I glued them together and onto the card front. I was more than a little happy to find this Silhouette cut file. I didn't want to stamp and color or glue sprinkles on individually for 24 cards.

After making 24 of these cards, Lucas was pretty much maxed out on card making, so I made the teacher card myself. It is a larger card - 5 1/2 x 6 1/2. I also made a large donut for Lucas to take home and play with (the most important part).

I'll be making Valentines with my 3 year old granddaughter, Elena, later this week. She only needs 8 plus a teacher card. I am still in the brainstorming process - wish me luck!

Dueling Lovebirds

I see Darnell has a new challenge site called Twofer Card Challenge. The task is to make two different cards using the same stamp. I seem to remember doing a very similar challenge a couple of years ago. You can see those cards here.
The theme is feathers and I wanted to get in on the maiden challenge. I have chosen this cute lovebird stamp from Gina K's "Better With You" stamp set. I am entering a Valentine and a Birthday card.

For the first card, I started with a Sketch N Scrap sketch from this month's Facebook New Beginnings Crop.

I initially planned to make the card completely black and white. I was intrigued at the possibility of coloring the entire image with Copics C markers. Something came over me when I got to the hearts. For some reason I reached for R24. I then made a dash for a scrap of Gina K's Red Hot card stock and just like that; it became a black, white and one more color card.

I joined the RRR (Really Reasonable Ribbon) club in October - as well as purchasing a Bow-It-All. I am in the process of perfecting my double looped bow. If you check my previous posting you will see an EXTREMELY similar pink one.

As you can see in the sketch, there are a flurry of embellishments required. I had my heels dug in on this one. I thought the card looked done and didn't want it to get too busy. I tried scribbles (too big). I tried gems (too small). I tried Stamps of Life diecut hearts (just right). Oh, and don't you love it when something falls on just the right spot on the page and well, it turns into a happy surprise. That would be the moment the heart fell on the word "you".

Moving on to card #2. For this card I color matched my paper with Copics for the image. I wanted a short rectangle across the top and that pesky birdhouse was getting in the way. I decided to cut it off and dangle it from the branch. Upon centering the rest of the stamp on the card there appeared to be too much card for too little stamp. I decided to cut the top portion of the stamp into inchies. I then matted the inchies, then matted that, then matted that, then matted that, then placed it on the card base. There are a couple of tricks in there, but you can see those.

The stamp on the inside of the card is the result of a scouring of my stamp drawer. This one is from Penny Black. As usual the inside of both of these cards is based on elements from the front and whatever scraps are left on the craft table.
