TN: Cruisin' Through Life

Here is my April addition to my Traveler's Notebook. We were so happy to receive the bike rack for our RV. Here is a pic of Huey putting it on for the first time. He had just finished putting the second bike on, when I snapped this picture. We are looking forward to some serious bike riding, especially if we can ever get a reservation to stay in Grayton Beach, Florida. That place stays booked.

For this page I stuck right to the sketch, as well as the color scheme that Lori added as a twist for her challenge. I got out an old bicycle stamp set from Lawn Fawn. That gave me the bike, pinwheels, and title. I didn't want to use the basket on the bicycle, so in the end it gave the placement of the bicycle an artsy look. It's wonderful, the way the bicycle die cuts out the spokes and everything. It really is a fun set!

All of these papers are from the same Bo Bunny - Calendar Girl tablet that I have. I like the way this wood background works here. Also note that, I am using Washi tape and didn't even have to! I am not a fan of Washi tape, but I had fun using it here.

T(Y)oucan Do It?

I have been wanting this stamp/die set for well over a year now. A few weeks ago My Favorite Things placed it on clearance. I got both for pieces for half price.
Stacy was having a quick scrap as part of the Sketch N Scrap birthday festivities. I decided to participate, but as usual I am NOT good at the fine print. I was making this card thinking I had until 1PM to complete it. At 10:55 I realized that it actually had to be completed and posted on FaceBook by 11:00. I hadn't glued the first thing down. In five minutes, I glued down all of the front of the card, took a terrible picture, posted in the appropriate folder (the picture was sideways), and sat back to take a deep breath of relief. I started looking through the other entries in the folder and realized they were all from the same sketch. I did not realize that I was supposed to use the required sketch. I immediately deleted the picture from the folder and set out to complete the inside of the card.

Card Sketch #58 by Lisa Hidy
This is that card. It is now complete and I have taken some extra time making sure the photographs are right side up.

I have used this sketch before. Go here to see the previous card. This time I flipped the sketch. I used some Echo Park Jungle themed paper and colored the toucans with my Copics.

I am entering this card in the Sketch N Scrap BINGO game in the box labeled "Song". So here is the song: "The Toucan Song". You can hear the melody on YouTube here

I made this card for a high school graduation. The daughter of one of husband's buddies is graduating.

The Toucan Song

In the jungle I can fly
Thru the trees way up high.
I am a one; I am a two
I am a toucan, so are you.

To to to toucan; to to toucan
Eat some berries; eat a seed
Fresh ripe fruit; it’s what I need

Oh! Bam toucan

I live in holes; I got a beak
I play games; squawk and squeak
Black and white; orange and blue
Red and green; what about you

To to to toucan; to to toucan
Eat some berries; eat a seed
Fresh ripe fruit; it’s what I need

Oh! Bam toucan

Loving Wishes

I have seen cards colored like this many times. When you wiggle them under the light, it looks like the marker shines. It turns out this is an illusion. To make this shiny image, I first stamped with Versa Mark, then heat embossed with gold embossing powder. I colored within each section of the flower. When you wiggle it under the light, it shines. Actually only the embossing is shining, but it seems like then entire flower is shining.

Card Sketch #145 by Heather Hall
This card does not contain any patterned paper. The blue linen in the background is stamped with a large background stamp. I added one of my favorite edge punches and color matched the flowers to make banners.

For the inside of the card, I repeated several of the elements from the front of the card. I restamped the same image using navy ink.I used the background stamp once again. I added another card stock banner and a strip of the same edge punch. I added one gem like the ones from the front of the card.

I had so much fun making this card, that I decided to make it again with orange.

Imagine

This was a super simple page. Once I had chosen my paper collection and card stock, I never got up from my chair. There is nothing on this layout except the paper from the collection.

Sketch by Lisa Hidy
Here I made my own grouping using several stickers.

I cut the title from the ephemera page and added more stickers. I finished it in an hour and half including clean up. Usually I spend 2 days worrying over every detail.

Summertime Bicycles

I recently spent the afternoon with two of my grandchildren. They were showing me how well they can ride their Christmas bikes. I used this opportunity to take some pics. I used Lisa Hidy's sketch from Sketch N Scrap to get started on the left page.

I am still trying to whittle down the stack of Graphic 45 Seasons paper left over from the card classes I taught last year. I am on my second layout - the first being a Spring layout.

Sketch #176 by Lisa Hidy
Since this patterned paper has an old-fashioned feel, I decided to look in the Silhouette store for some bikes of yesteryear to set the tone. As soon as I saw these big wheel bikes, I knew that I was going to put a round pic in the spokes. The scalloped circle mat inside the wheel was a little something I found in the bag of leftover goodies. The red floral paper is on the reverse side of the elements page. With some strategic cutting, I was able to get the "Summertime" title, the "Explore" sentiment, and the row of flowers on green strips.

I had my son hold the bike up at Ellie's face level to get this pic of her looking through the spokes of her bike.

To continue the layout into two pages, I extended some, but not all of the lines.

I had some fun on this page matting my pictures. For this pic I trimmed diagonally between the bikes and off-set the pictures. This made the picture take up less room horizontally. I added the strip of flowers on green for a repeat of elements from the left page.

For this 5 x 7 pic I made the mat with a 3/4 inch border. I then cut 1/2 inch strips of metallic gold. I placed them around the pic leaving 1/8 inch borders inside and outside of the strips. I also mitered the corners.
I made a point of repeating an element from the cards on my spring layout, so I thought I would do the same here. I repeated the pen nib butterfly exactly as it appears on this card from my class. Because of this I added a couple more butterflies to the layout.

These purple half pearls in two sizes worked out well in the centers of the wheel and sprinkled on the page. Also I will note that I added the mini scalloped circle to the center of the wheels, because the Silhouette had a bit of trouble cutting them to a point. Instead of fussy cutting each to fix it, I just added a little somethin' somethin' to hide it.
