Christmas Moose

Here is a quick little card. I wanted to use my new Stampin Up moose punch. This paper is quite a few years old. I got this 6 x 6 pad in a Gina K card making kit. I trimmed this border and added the three cardinals.

The cardinals and the birch trees are from a Lawn Fawn die. The sentiment is from a Karen Burniston die.

Gobble, Gobble

This card is about as close as I get to CAS. I find myself putting as much as I can possibly fit onto every project. This funny little turkey is from one of Karen Burniston's die sets. It is certainly fun to dress up the animals from her collection.

The sentiment is from a stamp set, but I do not know which one. It was stamped on a card in a class that I took. I printed a whole row of these and put them in my "Feathered Animals" die set for future use. I just grabbed the oval punch and punched one out for this card.

As soon as I saw this sketch from Sketch N Scrap, I knew that I was going to be using this card stock that I had from the "Happy Haunting" collection by Simple Stories. When it came time to choose colors for the striped background, I just let the paper do the work for me.

I guess the "word bird" in this case is "gobble"! The inside of this card is extremely simple as well.

John Deere Pyramid Mini

This card is in reality a very simple concept. Imagine 8 square cards ( 2 1/2, 3, 3 1/2, 4, 4/12, 5, 5 1/2, and 6 inch) with a mat (1/4 inch border) on the front of each. Attach them one on top of the other. Then add tri-folds, flaps, and pockets. It looks much more complicated than it actually is. I learned to make this in a class taught by Leslie Parlette at Scrappn' Savvy.

I have my hard-to-buy-for brother's name for Christmas this year. I decided to make a mini album with pictures of him thru the years with tractors - his favorite topic.

I used a piece of linen ribbon to tie the album shut. The pic on the front was taken in 1944. Gary is sitting on the tractor seat while our father steadied him.

On the inside of the 2.5 inch card are two pics matted in circles.

3 inch card: This had a horizontal tri-fold. I used this section to do a little journaling, added a die-cut Cheepers, the chicken and another pic taken the same day as the one on the front cover. In this picture you can see our oldest sister, Carol Ann. Patterned paper is introduced here. If you google "John Deere digital paper" you will find about 3 different choices on the web. I chose "Diggin Dirt" for several reasons.
  1. There were 15 different patterns.
  2. I liked the tractor and deer graphics.
  3. I contained plaids, stripes AND polka dots, not to mention this great chevron.
  4. It is purchased from an Etsy Store with an instant download for only $1.50. This is my second time to purchase a collection of digital paper. The last time it was Mario paper. If you have a decent color printer, it is a fun option for hard to find themes.

3.5 inch card: This is a simple layer. No fancy folds here. Even so, it is one of my favorite. Here you see my brother up on the corn picker and my dad standing below. On the right side are two more corn pickers. They kind of remind me of Heckle and Jeckle, but their names are Cawrl and Cawnie. Great names for crows!

4 inch card: Here I used a pattern with John Deere tractors on a vertical tri-fold. This provided lots of opportunities for pictures.

4.5 inch card: Here my brother is showing off a planter and a tractor that he restored. I grabbed the John Deere logo off of Google images (for my personal use). It is placed on a gate fold. Inside the gate I used my fun crow stamps again. The pic of Gary and his pride and joy 1944 tractor (Where have you seen that year before?) is split between two panels.

5 inch card: This section features a pocket on the left panel and a flap on the right panel. At 3 AM last Friday, I was laying in bed dreaming up this page. I couldn't get back to sleep, because I was trying to make it in my head. Finally the inevitable -- I gave in about 3:30. I got up and went to the craft room to put this together.
I placed Virgil, the pig and half a tree on the left pocket. There are two gift card envelopes die cut from the patterned paper as well as a fun tag for the pocket. On the right flap, I placed Brownie, the cow with the opposite side of the tree die. The cow has made an observation: "Herd there's a Deere in the barn!" When you open the flap, you see a barn with sliding doors. When you slide them open, you see a John Deere tractor, proving Brownie has made a good observation.

5.5 inch card: I used this vertical tri-fold to place a series of pics from my brother's weekend adventures. One of his favorite pass times is to load up one of his refurbished tractors and take it to a show.

6 inch card: This section is a regular fold, but with diagonal pockets. In the left pocket, are pics of my brother in his huge tractor shed where he works on his tractors. In the right pocket there are the words to a ballad written by my brother, Terry, to the tune of "Folsom Prison Blues". He wrote it about a two-seater John Deere tractor that Gary made, so Gary and his wife, Grace could ride together. I could not locate a picture of the John Deere tractor, but I was able to find a pic of Gary and Grace, as well as our brother, Lyle, sitting in different kinds of two-seaters.

Bottom of the album: I used this cute multi-colored gear paper here.

All totaled, I used 16 different die sets. 10 of these are those of Karen Burniston. I love going through my stash of dies, stamps, paper, embellies, etc. etc. etc. That is why I particularly love collecting die cuts.

Tropical Blooms with Bubbles

A friend of mine celebrated her birthday yesterday. I made this card for her. She and her husband were here last evening. We had dinner on the patio and surprised her with a fun little strawberry short cake with a candle on top.

Card and Envelope

Sketch #177 by Heather Hall

When this card is opened, the insides twist and open showing 4 panels. This is a newish die from Karen Burniston. I watched a video in order to figure out how to make it. I was SHOCKED at how easy this was to construct.

The flowers are from Gina K's January release called "Tropical Blooms. They are made with a three-stamp process. The MISTI came in especially handy. The stamp on the card front was a two-stamp. The bubbles in the background are sponged with Gina K's Fresh Asparagus and a Dutch Doobadoo stencil. I may have gotten a little carried away with the bubbles. They were so much fun. I'm thinking that a few less and a little lighter might have been better.

The sentiment is separated between one of the twisted panels and a tag collage. The tags have white rick rack in the eyelets.

The peach was added with Gina K's Peach Bellini ink. There is NO patterned paper on this card. The color was added to the sentiments and hearts using ink and dauber. I used an ek bubble edge punch to make more bubbles -- because there weren't enough. TeeHee!

Just the envelope

Easter Bunny

These are the pictures from last Easter. I needed to get them in the book before taking new ones this year.

I love this sketch. You have all month to try it out, post it to the Sketch N Scrap blog, and then be entered for a prize.

Sketch #148
This page follows the sketch. I used Echo Park's "Easter" collection. The title is a new die cut from Stamps of Life. I purposely placed it above the word "bunny" on the word strip.

The word strip is continued on to the second page as a connector between the 2 pages. I die cut the year "2017" with a Burniston die and added it below the word Easter.

The bunny is "Lucky the Rabbit" - a die set from Burniston. I used some pink dotted swiss paper from the collection for the ears, nose and feet. The eggs on the layout are old dies from Echo park. I fussy cut mats for them.

I need to stop making personal rules. I have a no sticker rule, but here I am using them. I used the tree, a flower, and a pink bunny on this layout. The shiny flowers are also from a sticker set. The grass (Burnistion die) grounds the rabbit and the tree.

This is a flap.

I found this stamp - "The ears are the best part" at Hobby Lobby a week ago. It was on the clearance rack for 50 cents. It made me laugh, so I bought it. After stamping it I made a flap for it. I used a utility knife to slice a spot to pull the ears of a sticker bunny through. A fun place for one more pic was created. I placed 2 magnets - one behind the pic and one on the back of the bunny mat - to keep the flap closed.

Polar Birthday

This card was made for a friend who had a January birthday. I worked so hard on the inside of the card, that I was happy to let the sketch lead the way for the front of the card. As a result, I ended up with a card front fitting of the details inside.

Card and Envelope
I hope you are joining us at Sketch~N~Scrap. Today there is a fun sketch by Lisa for you to try. Enter your creation before the end of the month to be eligible for a fun prize.

Card Sketch #116
I made a card using this Burniston die last October. Karen Burniston visited the store where I teach my classes. She demonstrated a card using this Tag Book Pop Up die. I remember the relief when we were assembling it. This die is super easy to put together. This is one of those cases where the card is easier than it looks. I presented it to my friend at dinner in January and well you know the WOW factor was there.

Vintage Cars

I put this card together yesterday for a friend from our dinner group that is celebrating a birthday.
I started with one of Lili of the Valley's trio stamp sets. The car on the front flap is part of an older Lili of the Valley stamp called "Toot Toot". I colored the front of the card from that one and placed it on a vintage map mat.

Card and Envelope

Previously, I have always made cube-shaped box cards and I have cut them on the trimmer and scored them myself. I purchased this box card die from Stamps of Life. I believe it is fairly new. I particularly liked working with it, because it makes larger mats on the front flap and back of card. There is also more room to spread out the goodies that are going in the box. Usually the side flaps (which are now smaller) are secondary anyway.

Clocks and gears are always good filler for masculine cards so I added a few of those. I also used these on the side flaps.

Back of Card
I always decorate the back of my box cards with scraps that are left on the table.

Envelope
I die cut Tim Holtz's "Jalopy" for the envelope. The stamp giving it motion is a flourish from a floral stamp set.

Materials List:
Patterned Paper: Echo Park - For the Record (Borders & Fancy)
Card Stock: Bazzill - Sugar Wafer
                                   White
                                   Black
